AI-Powered Blog Creation

Project Overview

Wix users wanted to publish blog content more consistently, but the writing process was often time-consuming and overwhelming.

To address this, we designed an AI-powered blog creation experience that helps users generate complete blog posts or outlines directly within the Wix editor. The solution guides users from ideation to publication while balancing automation with user control.

​ 

Following launch, the percentage of blog posts published with AI assistance doubled from 3.3% to ~6.5%, and 90% of AI-generated posts were published with little to no edits, indicating strong trust in the generated content.

The Challenge

Users wanted to create blog content faster, but they had very different expectations of what AI should do for them. While some were looking for a one click solution, others wanted inspiration and guidance without losing control over their voice.

At the same time, generating high quality content required enough context to produce relevant and SEO-friendly results, creating a tension between personalization and simplicity.

​ 

The challenge became: How might we help users create high-quality blog content with AI while preserving their sense of authorship and minimizing cognitive load?

Another challenge was the nature of AI itself. We knew the generated results wouldn't always be a perfect match, especially when users were still learning what AI could and couldn't do.

The question became: How might we create an experience that feels reliable and easy to recover from, even when the first result misses the mark?

Main Goal

To help users publish faster, overcome creative barriers, and enhance their content with better structure, tone, and SEO guidance, all within a single streamlined flow.

User Stories

During user interviews with small business owners, creators, and independent bloggers who manage their sites on Wix, several recurring themes emerged.

 

While their businesses and goals varied, all of them expressed challenges around the time, energy, and consistency required to maintain an active blog. These conversations helped frame the need for a tool that could simplify the writing process without losing authenticity. Here are a few representative quotes:

Competitor Research

As part of the competitive review, I analyzed several leading platforms to understand how they support writers throughout the content-creation process.

The comparison showed that most tools focus on isolated actions like rewriting, summarizing, or expanding text, while only a few offer richer capabilities such as generating ideas, crafting outlines, or creating full paragraphs.

​ 

Features like tone adjustment, translation, or SEO assistance varied widely, and no single competitor provided a simple, end-to-end flow that guides users from ideation to a complete blog post.

The Design Process

This product went through multiple iterations, both on the product side and the UX side. A significant thought was dedicated to shaping an experience that could offer users the flexibility they needed, whether they wanted to generate a post on any topic, create a post based on an existing entity on their site (such as a product, service, or event), or choose between generating a full article or just an outline.

 

Below are some of the design explorations I created:

Eventually, we decided to separate the experience into two distinct tools: one for creating a full blog post and one for generating a blog outline. Since users had different goals, from drafting complete posts to seeking inspiration, this decision made the experience clearer and more intuitive.

The experience was designed as a two-step wizard embedded directly within the blog environment. At the time, many users were still unfamiliar with generative AI and unsure how to formulate effective prompts. Instead of relying on an empty prompt field, we guided them through quick decisions around topics, SEO, audience, tone of voice, and post length. This reduced cognitive load and helped build confidence in the experience.

We also recognized that AI-generated results wouldn't always be a perfect match. To make the experience more forgiving, users could swap suggested topics and refine their preferences without having to start over.

​ 

Although the interaction felt simple, every choice users made contributed to the prompt behind the scenes, allowing us to deliver tailored results without requiring users to become prompt experts.

Below are some representative screens from the final experience, illustrating how we balanced guidance, flexibility, and user control throughout the flow:

Users could quickly replace AI-generated suggestions instead of getting stuck with a single recommendation. This helped maintain momentum even when the first results missed the mark.

Project Impact

The release of the AI Full Blog Post Generator demonstrated a meaningful shift in how Wix users approach content creation. Following launch, the percentage of blog posts published with AI assistance doubled, rising from 3.3% to approximately 6.5%, indicating a significant increase in trust and reliance on AI-generated content.

Perhaps the strongest validation came from user behavior: 90% of AI-generated posts were published with little to no text modifications, confirming that the generated content met users’ expectations for quality and tone. Additionally, around 10% of English-speaking blog users who accessed the Blog Overview or Post Composer engaged with at least one AI tool, showing that AI capabilities are becoming an integral part of the blogging workflow.

Overall, the data supports the conclusion that the full post generator successfully lowers the barrier to creating polished blog content and plays a valuable role in helping users publish more confidently and efficiently.
